The function of an amplifier’s input frequency is known as transfer function and the scale of the output signal against the input is referred to as gain and is measured in decibels. Normally, amplifiers are classified according to two configurations: Combo and Stacks. Combo amplifiers are a grouping of a speaker and an amplifier. They are classified into two types: full and half stacks. Half stacks provide a combination of a speaker cabinet equipped with a head while the full stacks use two cabinets.

The major differences and variations between a half stack and full stack is that the half stack are designed with 4 small speakers within its cabinet. On the other hand, full stacks are composed of 4 speakers and a large speaker in its other cabinet. The large speaker feature is mainly used to record and interpret low frequency sounds or notes.

Another important tip when buying a home stereo amplifier is to check all the features that a certain amplifier could provide you. There are some amplifiers which are equipped with a built-in digital effects feature.
